Treat your pigmented lesions with the Hollywood Spectra Laser

Are your sun spots, freckles and other pigmented lesions giving you a complex? In aesthetic medicine, it is entirely possible to eliminate these imperfections without surgery, thanks to laser technology. At Epilium & Skin, we use the Hollywood Spectra laser, a state-of-the-art device that breaks down pigments to facilitate their natural elimination.

What causes pigmentation spots on the face?

Pigmentation spots (or brown spots) that appear on the body or face can have several causes. Depending on their location and the context in which they appear, they are known as sun spots, pregnancy spots or age spots.

These spots correspond to an abnormally high concentration of pigments, generally melanin, on a few areas of skin. They are often the result of :

  • Excessive and/or repeated exposure to sunlight
  • Hormonal fluctuations (during pregnancy or menopause)
  • Certain skin diseases
  • Repeated aggression to the skin, e.g. from overly intense skin care or frequent exfoliation
  • Genetic variables
  • Natural or premature ageing of the skin, which explains the greater frequency of the phenomenon from the age of 40 onwards

It’s also worth noting that people with fair or very fair skin are more exposed than others to pigmented lesions. This type of skin is particularly sensitive to pigmentation problems.

However, sun exposure remains the most common risk factor for brown spots, as ultraviolet rays have a direct impact on melanin production.

How can pigmented lesions be treated without surgery?

Do you have pigmented lesions on your face or body? This photoaging phenomenon can be treated very effectively and non-invasively with the Hollywood Spectra laser.

The Hollywood Spectra laser is a state-of-the-art device that uses ultra-short light pulses to fragment the pigments responsible for pigment lesions, mainly melanin. Reduced to very small particles, these pigments are then eliminated through the body’s natural channels (lymphatic system), resulting in the disappearance of brown spots.

Melanin is selectively targeted by the device, preserving the surrounding skin. Designed to deliver optimum results for all patients, the Hollywood Spectra laser adapts to your phototype. Depending on the patient’s skin tone, the practitioner adjusts the laser wavelength to eliminate pigmentation spots.

The protocol involves several sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart for optimal disappearance of solar lentigos, melasma and other pigmented lesions. This effective, non-invasive treatment requires very few precautions, with patients simply having to avoid exposure to the sun.

What precautions should be taken to avoid pigmented lesions?

Sometimes called age spots, pigmented lesions are not inevitable, even after a certain age.

While it’s true that we can’t control certain factors, such as our genetic make-up, the appearance of dark spots also depends on other parameters that can be modified.

Starting withexposure to UV rays, which must be monitored and limited throughout life. In fact, sunlight is the primary cause of excessive melanin production. It is therefore advisable to avoid prolonged or repeated exposure to the sun, as well as repeated use of tanning booths. At the same time, remember to use sun protection adapted to your phototype.

Hyperpigmentation can also be avoided by adopting an adapted beauty routine, with antioxidant skin care products. In fact, the antioxidants contained in certain lotions help combat the free radicals that blur the complexion and encourage the formation of spots.

Finally, we recommendregular exfoliation, especially on the face, to remove dead skin cells. In fact, cell regeneration is highly effective in restoring a fresh, even complexion, free of dark spots. Be careful, however, not to overdo exfoliation, and to avoid products that are harsh on the skin.

At Centre Epilium & Skin, you’ll find products from Dr Obagi’s Zo Skin Health range. Enriched with vitamin C and with a pleasant texture, these products adapt to your skin tone and protect it with their high-performance SPF index.
