What are dilated pores?

Initially, the purpose of these little holes is to allow our skin to breathe. They help evacuate perspiration and sebum, as well as our dead cells. Certain factors, both physiological and environmental, are responsible for their dilation.

Oily skin: an overproduction of sebum produced by the sebaceous glands is often the cause of dilated pores. The pore’s circumference is no longer sufficient to evacuate secretions, so it enlarges.

Excessive sweating: as with oily skin, the pore will have to enlarge to excrete toxins.

Age : as we age, collagen degrades in the skin tissue, leading to a loss of elasticity and consequent dilation of pores due to tension.

A poor lifestyle: a diet rich in fats and sugars, alcohol and tobacco all have an impact on the way our body functions.

Exposure to the sun: to defend itself from UV rays, the skin thickens to protect itself and retains more sebum secretions. When the sun returns, the skin loses its tan and becomes thinner, releasing excess sebum that clogs pores.

Hormones: the pill or hormonal imbalance can cause dilated pores.

Dilated pores and blackheads: what’s the link?

And it makes sense! A dilated pore is easily clogged by dirt particles in the air, after touching our face with our hands, or coming into contact with bed linen or towels after a shower…

As the pore widens, it becomes a niche for impurities. Its obstruction by these particles is manifested by the appearance of a black spot.

How to get rid of enlarged pores and blackheads in aesthetic medicine?

In our Aesthetic Medicine Center, we offer several techniques to eliminate blackheads and tighten pores. The first step is to thoroughly cleanse the skin, removing all impurities. Here are our solutions:

  • Hydrafacial

A complete 4-step facial that needs no introduction, it uses a patented nozzle to draw out imperfections while infusing peel and peptide concentrates to remove dirt and intensely moisturize the skin.

  • Dermatological skin cleansing

This treatment is performed manually. The practitioner applies a peel with a varying concentration of glycolic and/or fruit acids to open pores, then proceeds toextract blackheads one by one with a fine needle.

Once healthy skin has been restored, you can undertake treatments to tighten the skin’s texture and prevent your pores from clogging up again. Microneedling is particularly suitable. This is a mechanical stylet made up of multiple fine needles that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin fibers. The skin tissue is considerably retracted by the traction effect, resulting in a smoother, more even complexion.

If you have combination or oily skin, you can have Carbon Peel sessions(laser peeling combined with charcoal application) to regulate sebum production.

Aesthetic medicine: preventing enlarged pores and blackheads

As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure! A Skincare routine is essential for maintaining healthy skin.

It’s essential to use cosmetics suited to your skin type, and to remove make-up properly every day. Other simple gestures should be observed: don’t touch your face with dirty hands, remember to change your mask regularly if you wear one, always wipe your face with a clean cloth, sleep on a regularly washed pillowcase… A diet rich in Omega and Vitamin B2, found in fish, almonds, eggs, etc., is also essential.
