Laser hair removal with Nd:Yag is intended for phototypes 4 to 6, which corresponds to Asian, Mediterranean and black skin types.
Phototypes 3 and 4, i.e. intermediate skins, sometimes need to be treated with Yag, especially after the summer season, to guarantee safe treatment.

Unlike the Alexandrite laser, which is designed exclusively for light skins, the Nd:Yag laser for dark to black skins distinguishes between melanin in the skin and that contained in the hair, its main target being water. This reduces the risk of burns.
After the session, hair takes longer to fall out than with other laser technologies: it takes an average of twenty days to appreciate the results.
As with the treatment of fair skin, a preliminary test is carried out to ensure theeffectiveness of the laser hair removal treatment. If the hair is too fine or too light, the result will not be satisfactory at the end of the session.

LASER hair removal for matte and dark skins: WHAT ARE THE ZONES?
All areas where laser treatment is generally possible are eligible for ND:YAG treatment. If very light hairs persist at the end of the sessions, you may be offered the alternative of electrolysis. This technique consists in destroying the hair by means of an electric current transmitted to the bulb. Performed hair by hair, electrolysis is favored for small areas at the end of the treatment, or for high-risk areas in laser hair removal for darker, matte skins.
WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS TO LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT FOR DARK SKIN?
Certain contraindications will postpone the possibility of laser hair removal treatment:
- pregnancy and breastfeeding
- pigmentation disorders
- photosensitizing drugs
- skin lesions
- sun exposure
Even if the skin is already matte or dark, artificial tanning substitutes such as self-tanners or beta-carotene capsules are prohibited, as they can mislead the laser beam.
