Laser hair removal and swimming pool: our summer tips!

We keep telling you that the sun and laser hair removal aren’t compatible, but you’re not going to deprive yourself of a vacation. So here are our top tips and advice for you to follow.

CAN I BATHE AFTER MY LASER HAIR REMOVAL SESSION?

Whether at the pool or the beach, we recommendwaiting at least 48 hours before jumping in. This period of time helps to reduce redness and skin sensitivity following the laser hair removal session. Bathing with sensitized skin in salty sea water or chlorinated swimming pool water can cause skin irritations and force you to spend your vacation on your towel!

If, despite the 48-hour period, you still feel a tingling sensation while swimming, don’t panic! Remove from the water and apply a soothing Aloe Vera or Cicalfate cream, and wait until the next day to repeat the experience.

FIND THE RIGHT TIME FOR YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL SESSION

The ideal time to have your waxing session is the week before you go on vacation. Ideally, we recommend that you have your session 10 days before departure, so that you can keep your skin clean throughout your stay and avoid the hassle of shaving. The little bulbs fell out and the redness associated withlaser hair removal disappeared. Your legs, bikini line and underarms are clean and impeccable for at least 6 to 8 weeks. So you can enjoy your vacations with complete peace of mind…

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN ON VACATION?

Whether you’re undergoing laser treatment or not, it’s important to always protect your skin when you’re out in the sun!

Applying SPF 50 at the start of exposure helps prevent sunburn and hyperpigmentation spots. Gradually, you can consider applying a lower SPF cream if your skin tone allows.

Well-protected skin ages better, with an even tan and no risk of peeling as soon as you return from vacation.

SUN AND LASER HAIR REMOVAL: REMEMBER TO MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN

Before your laser hair removal session, it’s important to take a few precautions, and in particular not to forget to moisturize your skin before and afterpermanent hair removal. Properly moisturized skin contributes to good results and limited side effects (redness, irritation).

DON’T WAX AT THE START OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR.

When you return from the summer vacations, the hair will certainly have just started to grow back. At this point, you might be tempted to reach for your electric razor, the tweezers or the jar of wax… big mistake. You can shave the hair with a manual razor or depilatory cream, but never remove the hair with its bulb.

When the hair has started to grow again, this means you’re once again entering a phase of hair growth and can look forward to your second laser hair removal session. However, we advise you to wait at least 2 weeks after your vacation before you start unplugging, to avoid any risk of laser burns.

For intermediate skins with light-colored hair, you’ll need to wait for a complete tanning process, i.e. a minimum of 8 weeks, before resuming your laser treatment.

Your laser operator will tell you how long to wait between sun exposure and laser hair removal.
