WHAT IS ELECTRIC HAIR REMOVAL?

Electric hair removal, or electrolysis, works by destroying hair follicles with an electric current. This method is effective on all hair types and skin colors.

Electric hair removal involves treating each hair one a year, which makes the protocol rather lengthy. This technique is most commonly used on small areas, which may be difficult to access and have fairly fine or even downy hair. Electric epilation allows each hair to be individually targeted, which is why it is so precise.

It is particularly effective for removing unwanted facial hair, such as that around the eyebrows, upper lip, chin and cheeks.

Electrolysis is also recommended for areas prone to paradoxical regrowth, such as the areolas and abdominal line.

The bikini area or larger regions, such as the back or legs, can also benefit from electrolysis.

WHY IS THERE HAIR ON THE ABDOMINAL LINE?

Hair on the abdominal line is generally thicker and darker in men than in women. This presence of hair on the abdominal line is linked to hormonal and genetic factors.

The male hormone testosterone, produced in large quantities in male subjects, promotes the growth of body hair.

In women, testosterone is also present, but at lower levels, which explains why hair on the abdominal line is generally less visible. During pregnancy, some women experience an increase in the amount of hair on their abdominal line due to high hormone levels.

HOW DOES AN ELECTRIC HAIR REMOVAL SESSION WORK?

Each patient has an initial consultation with an Epilium aesthetic doctor. The doctor explains the treatment protocol in detail and the precautions to be taken during and after each treatment session. After determining your eligibility for electrolysis, he’ll give you a personalized quote with the number of sessions indicated for your needs.

At the start of the appointment, the abdominal line is cleaned and disinfected. Next, the aesthetic doctor uses a fine sterile needle, inserted into the hair follicle individually, until the hair root is reached.

Once the needle is positioned, a low-intensity electric current is applied through the needle. The electric current destroys the papilla, located at the root of the hair and responsible for its growth. The electrical impulse causes the hair to detach from the hair follicle. It is then removed with tweezers.

The process may be slightly uncomfortable, but the discomfort is bearable.

Electrolysis generally requires several sessions to achieve definitive results, as not all hairs are in their active growth phase at the same time.
